Chittorgarh was one of the most fiercely contested seats of power in India. The story of Chittorgarh is a saga of valor, tenacity and sacrifice. Chittorgarh (also Chittaurgarh) was sacked three times and its defenders had to make the supreme sacrifice.

Chittorgarh, the administrative head quarters of Chittorgarh District in Rajasthan, is an old city as an embodiment of Rajput tradition mixed with romance and courage.

The history of Chittorgarh is very rich, full seizures and acquisitions. Bappa Rawal, the founder of the Sisodia dynasty, married princess Solanki. The kingdom of Chittorgarh was first given as a dowry gift to him in the mid 8th century.

The city of Chittorgarh lies 115 km to the east of Udaipur. Chittorgarh is located in the southern part of the state of Rajasthan, in the northwestern part of India.

It is located beside a high hill near the Gambheri River. The prime tourist attractions in Chittorgarh include the magnificent Chittorgarh Fort, Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory), Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame), Rana Kumbha's Palace, Padmini's Palace, Kalika Mata Temple, and Government Museum among many others.

Chittorgarh does not have an airport of its own.
By Rail : Chittorgarh railway station is located on the western banks of Gambheri River. It has rail links with Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Delhi. By Road : The main bus stand is also on the western banks of Gambheri River. There is good bus service for Ajmer, Bundi, Kota and Udaipur from Chittorgarh.
