Pushkar is known for its Pushkar Camel Fair, it is one of the largest in India and the only one of its kind in the entire world. During this fair, lakhs of people flock to Pushkar, along with camels and cattle for trading of live stock, horse dealing, pilgrimage and a religious festival. Pushkar is a small town, but during the fair, this small town becomes the cultural phenomenon with colourfully dressed devotees, musicians, acrobats, folk dancers, traders, comedians, sadhus and tourists reaching here during the fair.

It takes place in the month of Kartika (November), beginning on Ashtmi, the 8th day of Lunar calendar and continues till full moon or Poornima. During the first half of the festival period, the camel and cattle trading reaches its peak. Devotees also take holy dips in the holy "Sarovar" lake, as the sacred water is known to bestow salvation.
